  • Comparison between Samsung Galaxy S4 versus Sony Xperia Z1

The Galaxy S4 has a very reasonable size and amazing features that would be difficult to beat. Sony’s phone has the advantage of being waterproof with a very strong processor and bigger size display. Unless it will have a very good price, I would go for the Galaxy S4.

Comparison between Samsung Galaxy S4 versus Sony Xperia Z1

After launching Samsung Galaxy S4 a few months ago and it seemed like Samsung wanted to leave no area for competition. There is the Galaxy S4 Active that is durable and waterproof which has been the Sony play area. There is the Galaxy S4 Zoom with focus on photography that Nokia was trying to own with the its Purview and later Lumia 1020. Well it seems like Sony will not give up easily and after the Xperia Z launch, Sony just launched a highly improved model Xperia Z1 that has top end specs. But retail price will show if this is will be able to reach Sony’s success target. We will cover the key specifications, capabilities with pros and cons.

    Design

The Sony Xperia Z1 is very elegant with its all glass back cover but it is huge compared with the Galaxy S4. Already the S4 is seen to be a big phone and a lot say it is the biggest they can have without impacting mobility but the new Xperia Z1 with its 6-inch display is closer in size to the Galaxy Note 3 than to the S4. Looking at the table below you will see that the Z1 is bigger, thicker and heavier.

      Galaxy S4 Xperia Z1
    Length (mm) 136.9 144
    Width (mm) 69.8 74
    Thickness (mm) 7.9 8.5
    Weight (grams) 130 170

One key feature in the Xperia Z1 is that it is water and dust proof. This is a great advantage as it is reported that dropping smartphones in water represent about 25% of the causes of mobile phone damage. The phone can stay at a depth of up to 1 meter for 30 minutes.z1 in water

    Performance

The Galaxy S4 model I9500 is available with two processors optimized for best performance. It has a 1.6 GHz quad core processor and another 1.2 GHz quad core processor. On the other hand the Xperia Z1 has a full 2.2 GHz quad core processor that is very fast and powerful.

Both phones have 2 Gigs of RAM and run latest Android Jellybean 4.2 as the operating system. One disadvantage for the Xperia Z1 is that it is only available in a 16 Gigabyte version. Unlike the S4 that has a 16, 32 or 64 version. Although both allow for adding extra memory up to 64 Gigabytes, but this is an issue for Z1 since there is demand for bigger memory phones. One other issue with the Z1 is battery; it seems like the big processor and display eat up a lot of the 3000 mAh battery when compared to other phones.

    Display

The Xperia Z1 6-inch display is bigger than S4’s 5-inch screen. Both phone are full HD and have the same pixel density of 441 pixels per inch. The display quality is simply great. While bigger size has its advantages for watching video, gamming, ready, browsing and working, it also has its issues as it becomes bilky to carry, and quite odd taking from.

    Camera

The S4 camera is 13 megapixels supported by outstanding software with an array of themes and features.z1 and s4 cams

But Sony is pushing the camera capability and running a Megapixel race with a staggering 20.7-megapixel camera. The Z1 camera software has    been upgraded to enable a wide range of settings and themes that will probably make a difference for advanced photographers. Although the Z1    camera is theoretically better, we see that for the majority of the basic users both are really great. Sony added a few interesting features like      social feed with live video streaming on Facebook.

    Additional Unique Capabilities

The S4 had a lot of new applications and capabilities. S-Health is one which helps track your calorie intake, consumption, exercise and with additional devices can connect with the heart monitor and provide sleep analysis. The device also has become very interactive with a lot of improvements in its voice, motion, and visual engagements. Additionally the S4 has an infrared blaster that would work as a remote control for multimedia devices.

The Xperia Z1 has water and dust proofing as one of its unique capabilities
but also Sony has pushing hard on NFC usage and accessories and a strong focus on photography.

    Bottom line

The Galaxy S4 has a very reasonable size and amazing features that would be difficult to beat. Sony’s phone has the advantage of being waterproof with a very strong processor and bigger size display. Unless it will have a very good price, I would go for the Galaxy S4.
